Speed of Business with Andrew Myers

Andrew Myers of What’s Next Media talks about planning your day and balancing the speed of business, and the things you commit to so you can provide real value every day of the week. The easiest thing in business is to over-commit – saying YES always feels good to say, especially to customers.  The speed of business is different for everyone, the key is knowing how much you can commit to, and doing the things you choose to commit to very well, every time! No matter what your personal speed, the speed of your business should match your ability to meet the commitments you make on a daily basis. As good as it feels to say yes, it feels worse to have to admit that you have not followed through with the promises you made to yourself, your customers, your clients, and your business.

How many people do you know personally that commit freely at the speed of business, but do not perform at the speed of the business? They key lies in striking a balance between the things you commit to and the things that you have to say no to, because you cannot follow through. Saying YES is gratifying and fun to say, but in order for this gesture to have meaning there must be follow through to accompany it also.  Part of that follow thru, is having the ability to properly schedule your day so that the tasks that must be done during the day are given due attention during the day. While tasks that can be pushed off until after “working hours” should be, if you want to truly put in a full day.

Especially in the world of sales customers can only truly be contact during the day, so why waste time during those hours doing anything but that? Part of the reason that entrepreneurs and salespeople feel so “busy” yet always also feel behind on their goals is simply the way they manage their time. Don’t over commit, and always over deliver. You will feel better, and so will everyone you do business with!
